Stryde privacy policy

Stryde is a running app by Bueno Works. Close a loop on a run and you claim the land inside it on a shared map; collect coins for runner avatars; compete on leaderboards and in teams. This page explains, in plain language, what data the app collects, why, and how you stay in control.

Location

Stryde uses precise location only while a run you started is active. So your run keeps recording with the screen off, location continues in the background during that run, shown by a persistent notification. When the run ends, location stops.
Your live position is never shown to anyone. Other players only ever see finished results: the land you've claimed.
Runs that look like they were done in a vehicle are flagged and don't count.
You can deny location access; you just can't record runs or claim territory without it.

What other players can see

Your territory (the land inside loops you've closed) is shown on the shared map with your username and avatar, and on the territory board, while "Show my territory on the map" is on (Profile → Privacy). Turn it off to hide your land from everyone.
The community map shows where people run as anonymous lines: no names, accounts or times are attached, the first and last 200 m of every run are cut off so no start point or front door is drawn, very short runs are left out, positions are rounded to about 11 m, and only the last 90 days are shown. Turning off "Show my territory on the map" also removes your runs from this layer.
Leaderboards show your username, avatar, level and totals while "Show me on leaderboards" is on. Turn it off to leave public rankings; you still see your own stats.
Teams: members of a team you join see your username, avatar and activity totals within that team. Leaving the team stops this.
3D replays and shared videos are made on your phone. A replay is only shared if you choose to share it yourself.

Health data (optional step tracking)

Step tracking is optional. If you turn it on, we read step counts only from Health Connect, including in the background so totals stay current. We never read heart rate, sleep, workouts or any other health data.
Only one step total per day leaves your phone. Health data is never sold, never used for advertising, and never shared except as step totals on leaderboards and in teams under the visibility settings above.
You can revoke access at any time in Health Connect; the rest of the app keeps working.

Ads and purchases

Ads in Stryde are always optional: rewarded ads you choose to watch (for example, to get coins or unlock an extra). There are no pop-up ads. Ads are served by Google AdMob, which may collect your device's advertising ID and ad-interaction data under Google's privacy policy. On iPhone, the app asks for tracking permission first; on Android you can reset your advertising ID or opt out of ad personalisation in your device's Google settings. Declining doesn't stop the optional ads, it only makes them non-personalised.
Remove ads is a subscription billed by Google Play. Google handles the payment; we only receive whether your subscription is active.

Services we use

We don't sell your personal data or share it for anyone else's marketing. Data goes only to these services, to run the app:

Supabase: our backend (account login, database, server logic). Stores the data listed above.
Google: "Continue with Google" sign-in (if you use it), Google Play billing, and AdMob ads.
Resend: delivers our account emails (sign-up and password-reset codes) to your email address.
Map providers (OpenFreeMap, and Esri for satellite view) and DiceBear (avatar images): your phone downloads map tiles and avatar images from them. Like any website, they see your IP address and which map area or avatar was requested, but not your account.
Health Connect: Android's own health-data service, only for optional step tracking.

We don't use any analytics, crash-reporting or tracking SDKs. If that changes, we'll update this policy first.

Storage and security

Your data is stored with Supabase and protected by database access rules: private data such as your account details is readable only by you, and rewards are calculated on our servers rather than trusted from the app. All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS). Our providers operate in several countries, so your data may be processed outside the country you live in; the protections in this policy apply wherever it's processed.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your data while your account exists so your history and territory stay intact. You can delete your account and all its data at any time, instantly in the app (Profile → Delete account) or by email. Details: stryde.buenoworks.app/delete-account.

Your choices and rights

See a copy of your data, or correct it (most of it you can edit in the app).
Delete your account and data at any time, as above.
Limit visibility with "Show me on leaderboards" and "Show my territory on the map".
Revoke permissions (location, step data, notifications) in your phone's settings.

Email support@buenoworks.app for any request; we'll reply as soon as we can and within 30 days.

Children

Stryde is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes

When this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
